Whether you're an outdoorsman, fitness enthusiast or quiet observer, Kossuth County offers a variety of recreation opportunities.

Sports

Swimming — Swimming pools are located in Bancroft, Burt, Fenton, Swea City, Titonka, Wesley, West Bend & Whittemore. Algona is home to an aquatic center completed in 2001.

Golf — Find eight beautiful golf courses within the boundaries of the county and numerous others are close by. A miniature golf course offers fun for kids and adults.

Bancroft Memorial Park — Celebrate this town's great legacy of baseball at this nostalgic baseball field!

Auto Racing — Race enthusiasts can experience dirt track racing on a 3/8 mile track while a remote control car racetrack lets racers try their skills on a smaller scale.

Outdoor Recreation Activities

Wildlife & Nature Areas — Woodlands and waterways dot the landscape with fish, waterfowl and game for the outdoorsman. Camping areas abound including Siems Park near Whittemore. In addition, virgin prairie just as the settlers found it in the 1850's is preserved at Stinson Prairie. Lions, tigers and other exotic animals live at the Wildlife Sanctuary just north of Ledyard.

Other notable outdoor areas include:
A.A. Call State Park — Features picnic areas, modern and rustic camping, a log cabin-style lodge and five miles of rugged hiking trails.

Burt Lake Park — A haven for nature lovers with native grasses, timber and lake stretching across 145 acres. Camping, fishing and a shelter are available.

Smith Wildlife Area — Upland timber open to the public for fishing, hunting, trapping, hiking and related activities. Kids and adults alike enjoy making maple syrup each spring in these woods with the Kossuth County Conservation Board.

Union Slough Wildlife Refuge — Observe wildlife under natural conditions within 2,200 acres of prairie grassland, marsh, trails, and picnic areas.

Freedom Park — A.B.A.T.E. of Iowa owns a 140 acre multi-use recreational site. The site sports A.B.A.T.E.'s annual Freedom Rally and has additional outdoor recreation uses.

Fitness

Algona Family YMCA — Algona boasts a 40,000 square foot YMCA facility which includes a large main gymnasium, a suspended walking/running track, two racquetball courts, an exercise center, a Cybex weight training center, a free weight room, a youth gymnasium, two lounge areas with table tennis, billiards & foosball, a large aerobic studio, and men's & women's locker rooms. Private fitness facilities are available in several Kossuth County communities.
