The welcome sign that greets you on Highway 169
west of Burt includes the towns motto, The Little Town
With the Big Heart and Helping Hand.
Burt is located in the heart of Kossuth County and has about
600 people. Burt was established with the coming of
the Northwestern Railroad in 1881. A
hundred-year-old landmark in town is the big hotel first known as
Pecks Hotel. It
is now owned by the Larsons and is located on the main street of
town. For the youth
of Burt there is a swimming pool, basketball court, three playground
areas, a tennis court, baseball fields, and many community activities.
