Students
participating in Kossuth County Economic Development Corporation’s
Intern Program are giving hope to local youth by collecting personal
care items for kids. Students want to leave a legacy after the summer
by giving back to their community through a community service project
is called, “Project Hope.” The goal is to provide comfort
to children/teenagers who have been removed from their homes in
Kossuth County and no longer have personal health care products
Area residents can participate in Project Hope
by donating small personal care items at the KCEDC Office located
at 106 South Dodge Street, Suite 210, Algona. Students will then
assemble individual packages and deliver them to the Department
of Human Services and the Kossuth County Law Enforcement Center.
Travel-sized items are preferred. Items needed
include: combs, brushes, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant,
toothbrushes, fingernail clippers, soap—bar/body wash, and
razors.
Executive Director Maureen Elbert stated, “Many
of the interns working in Kossuth County are from this area. Project
Hope is one way that college-aged students can give back to the
community that is helping Interns develop job skills.”
Executive Director Maureen Elbert emphasized the
importance of the project, “Project Hope is important to kids
because it lets them know that there are people that care. We hope
to see this project grow.”
