FALL CHILDCARE!

Parents and guardians needing childcare this fall have a new option!  The YMCA will be offering an all day state-certified childcare for children ages three and four.  School age children will be able to attend the daycare before and after school. Fees will start at $2.50 per hour – you will only pay for the hours your child is in childcare!

Stop by the YMCA and pick up a registration form now to enroll them in childcare, opening day is August 20th.

The YMCA has hired a new childcare director.  Jennifer Carr and her husband, Garon, moved to Algona 9 years ago.  They have three children and are looking forward to continuing to raise their family in Algona.

Parents want what is best for their children.  A good childcare has good caregivers.  Currently the YMCA is looking for individuals that enjoy caring for children and are dedicated to doing what is right for each child.  If you or someone you know is looking for part time work in childcare stop at the YMCA for an application.

UPCOMING Y-PAL EVENT

The Y-Pal mentoring program is sponsoring a professional non-profit traveling theater.  This “tent event” is aimed at exposing their audience to a unique theatrical experience reminiscent of a tent show from the 1920’s.

Standing Tall is a one hour production of an Iowa farm family braving the stormy winds of county living.  It is set in an imaginary time resembling the late 1930’s.  Plan to bring the entire family on Thursday, July 12th at 7:30 pm to Smith Lake to see this one-of-a-kind play which features talking animals, fantastical puppets and a twisting tornado.  Tickets are $5.00 at the gate. Please bring your own chairs.

Our program continues to grow! We currently have 5 children waiting to be matched to the right caring teen or adult. If you (or someone you know) has a few extra hours to spend with a child each month contact Bonny at the YMCA 295-7701.

TEEN DANCE

Teen Dances for the remainder of the summer will be the following dates:

July 7th and August 11th

All dances will be from 7:30 – 10:30

PARTNERS WITH YOUTH

Our annual Partners with Youth campaign is well under way! Each year we are able to provide membership assistance, program assistance, camp sponsorships and much more, thanks to the generous donations generated from this event.  All businesses are welcome to purchase a banner that is proudly displayed in the Moss gymnasium for the entire year and shows that you are a youth supporter.  Individuals are also welcome to have their names displayed on the banners in the AMU youth gym.  This year we will be adding a phone-a-thon on July 8th.  We hope to reach more members with this portion of the campaign.  Please consider making a donation to this important part of the Algona Family YMCA.

SUMMER IS HERE!

The YMCA day camp program is a great opportunity for kids to get out of the house and experience something new and exciting.  Parents can register kids for as many weeks as they would like – up to the WHOLE SUMMER! Past theme weeks have included, Dirty Jobs – complete with field trip to the wastewater treatment plant, Fantastic Fine Arts – kids learned a dance routine, tye dyed t-shirts and had guest speakers, and Superheroes – with local superheroes – such police officers, made costumes.  Next week’s theme – Fun with Food!  Space is limited – so register today!  Contact the YMCA for more information.

TINY ADVENTURES

The YMCA day camp program has a “tiny” version too!  Tiny Adventures allows you to give your 4, 5 or 6 year old a day camp experience with out the all day commitment.  Tiny adventures will meet for two weeks from 9:30 – 10:30 everyday.  The session will fun from July 23rd to August 3rd.  Registration is happening now – the deadline is July 16th.
