Pharmacists Mutual Companies’ original building was built in 1971 when the company was first opened. Many changes and updates have been done over the years, but the most recent addition was added this year.
The new three-floor section of the building added 29,000 square feet to the pre-existing section and was designed to hold 100 additional employees. The first and second floors have been filled, and the third floor is being kept for future expansion. The new addition is connected to the building that already existed.
Midstates Builders were the contractors for the project, and Allers Associates Architects PC did the architectural work. Garden’s Gate of Algona landscaped around the exterior and interior of the new addition. Construction on the building began in May 2005.
A parking lot was added alongside the new building for the convenience of the employees. It will allow visitors and employees to enter the Pharmacists Mutual parking lot through the Americinn entrance.
The whole project cost $4 million.
Not only did Pharmacists Mutual update its building, it updated its computer software. A higher upgrading policy processing software was implemented in late July. This process took two years to complete.
“It was worth the two years it took,” said Ed Berg, president and CEO of the company. “We no longer have an old-fashioned operating system.”
Another project in the works is an education center where employees can be trained or further educated. This space will be created by joining two empty team offices within the existing building. The new education center will be able to hold up to 300 people.
New employees have also been added as well as a few additional positions. Twenty-one people have been recently added to the Pharmacists Mutual staff.
