FREE WEENIE ROAST!

What’s better that a free weenie roast?  A free weenie roast with friends!  The Algona Family YMCA is inviting all members to stop in on Friday, September 21st between the hours of 11:30 am and 1:00 pm for a free hot dog, chips, bar and drink.  This is our little way of saying “Thanks for being a member!”

YMCA CHILDCARE!

The YMCA childcare center opened August 20th with great success!

The YMCA childcare is able to provide stimulating age appropriate activities.  At the same time we are able to transport preschool age and school age children to and from school.  The school teachers and principles have been incredibly patient and helpful.  I send many thanks to everyone that has had a hand in the success of the childcare program.  A big thank you to Truman Shackelford for building us a sand table, book shelf and 2 easels.  The children and childcare staff greatly appreciate everything that has been done for this program!

The after school program is continuing to be based in the YMCA facility.  A number of Kindergarten through 5th grade students have used this service, especially with all heat related early outs.  The after school program offers a wide variety of activities; physical and social development, designated homework and reading time with assistance from the YMCA staff, and free play at the end of the afternoon for children to enjoy the games in the family center.

Space is still available in both programs – so sign up today!

TUMBLING

The fall session of Tumbling will begin the week of September 17th.  Our new instructor, Anna Merryman is looking forward to a fun filled year.  With the addition of a new class to help accommodate all of the interest in this program we now have 116 participants for the fall sessions!  There are still a few spots left in some of the classes – call the YMCA for more information at 295-7701.

Y-PALS

Y-Pals Mentoring program will meet for their monthly group event on September 20th at 5:30 and/or 6:30pm. Y-Pals can choose a time to become instructed and canoe at Smith Lake.

Y-Pals are "Giving Back" by sponsoring movies at the YMCA.  Our first movie will be on Sunday, September 23rd at 3:30pm in the Aerobics room.  We're featuring HAPPY FEET.  Bring your own chair or pillow and a snack. Children must be supervised.

We are able to present these monthly movies because Leann Berte and Hewlett Packard have donated a beautiful 58" TV to Y-Pals along with a state of the art computer, a 32" TV, and a camera w/ loading dock.  We are happy to share or gifts with the YMCA.  Please plan to join us for a relaxing afternoon.

Y-Pals are always searching for folks who would like to share 4 or more hours a month with a youth.  Please consider becoming a Mentor.
